Sonos is an early stage Santa Barbara company which has developed and is selling a WiFi based, “whole house†digital audio system. The Company was founded by John MacFarlane and his colleagues, founders of Software.com, a highly successful Internet software company.\n\nThe Sonos audio system is modular, consisting of wireless remote controls and “Zone Players†(a WiFi enabled amplifier which drives speakers in a room); INSERT INTO events2 (id, isopen, title, location, briefdescrip, ldescription, date, [current], attendees, map, [time], capacity, reminders, doorpay) VALUES all interconnected by WiFi. There is no wiring from room to room. Any remote can control music anywhere in the house. Different rooms can be playing different music simultaneously.\n\nSignal sources include music streamed from the Internet (e.g. Rhapsody, Internet Radio stations); INSERT INTO events2 (id, isopen, title, location, briefdescrip, ldescription, date, [current], attendees, map, [time], capacity, reminders, doorpay) VALUES music stored on home computers or network attached storage (hard drives connected directly to the home ethernet); INSERT INTO events2 (id, isopen, title, location, briefdescrip, ldescription, date, [current], attendees, map, [time], capacity, reminders, doorpay) VALUES and traditional analog sources (CD players, FM tuners and receivers, tape decks, etc.)\n\nThe Sonos system has garnered glowing reviews from demanding critics (e.g., Walter Mossberg and David Pogue).
