Angels, are they still hovering?
4/25/2001 5:30PM      |  Send this page to a friend.
Santa Barbara, CA
Program Description:
In the wake of an unprecedented run-up and an equal and opposite downturn in the public stock markets over the past 2 years, many of the individuals that were investing as Angels in early stage and start-up companies may no longer have the appetite to continue investing. With the IPO window firmly nailed shut, liquidity opportunities are few and far between and most of the M&A activity that is taking place in the recent past is often performed in cashless transactions, using depressed stock values as currency. Due to these market conditions, Angels are investing less often and businesses need to be more attractive to successfully obtain Angel investments.\n\nWith these issues in mind, we have assembled a panel of experienced Angel investors, representing the local (Central Coast); INSERT INTO events2 (id, isopen, title, location, briefdescrip, ldescription, date, [current], attendees, map, [time], capacity, reminders, doorpay) VALUES regional (Southern California) and national perspectives. These individuals will discuss what attracts Angels in today’s market conditions, the current trends in Angel investing and the value of that angels offer entrepreneurs.\n\nThe Angel representatives included in the evening’s presentations will be John Garcia, a Principal of Angel Strategies, LLC, a company offering due diligence expertise for Angel investors; John Morris, co-founder and President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the TechCoast Angels, a network of individual investors that fund early-stage technology companies in Southern California; Paul Dore, Principal of the Investment Group of Santa Barbara, a private group of investors that can be considered “Super-Angels” for the investment amount and their involvement in their portfolio companies; and Mike Pfau, a co-founder of the Venture Investment Partners, a Santa Barbara-based informal network of Angel investors. These individuals have extensive experience in Angel investing as well as hands-on experience in mentoring start-up technology-based companies. These individuals will offer insights into what deals are being funded as well as how angels are approached in these uncertain times of venture investing.\n\nRick Davis, President and CEO of Ants.com had this to say about his recent experience with the MIT Enterprise Forum: “The MIT Enterprise Forum panelists asked tough questions, heard great answers, and shared big ideas on how to grow Scout.” \n
